Image editing - Image manipulation - Colour correction

Image editing, image manipulation and colour correction for print, are important parts of almost every design project.
The number of different results from image editing and manipulation can be as limitless as our imaginations.
The benefits to advertising is for focus on the product or service that will make your ad more effective.
Clear to the point imagery provides a sharp distinctive product spotlight that will enhance the advertisement by adding the proverbial '1000 words' in one picture.

Image Editing

Having your images used in advertising often means isolation of the key element to help centre attention on the subject of the image. In this example the background was removed and the image is placed above and outside the sign to add depth. This is also an example of a "Snipe" - things that protrudes beyond the rectangle of the design add an eye catching element in many applications.

Image Manipulation

An example of manipulation, the combining of multiple images that create a new and individual image. This design is currently running on both billboard and Buses, the picture shows the combination of the image parts.

Another example was a project started to both honour and display the creation of Maarten Schaddelee's "Doorways to Spirit". The images here are a group of 16 carvings combined to make the "Mandela of the Doorways to Spirit". See more about the Doorways.

Colour Correction

For the most part with modern camera equipment this type of image problem is not as dramatic as it once was. It wasn't uncommon in the recent past to have a person's skin look too pink and the grass too blue after printing (Both looked great on the screen). That said correct colour in printing can still be an issue if overlooked.

Colour Correction Facts

  • Monitor colours are not the same as printed colours.
  • There are millions of colours for the screen and only thousands of colours for printing.
  • This means if it looks right on your screen it may not look right printed.
  • Monitors, in general, are not reliable for visual colour proofing.
  • Monitors need to be setup using  a colour calibration device to be accurate.
  • "White Balance" is very important, the relationship between the Black and White.
  • Monitors add brightness to make white, often showing effects better than print can.
  • Printer use white as the background and subtracts brightness by adding ink.

Working together with your ideas I can make your imagery jump off the page (or sign) making the end result a dynamic advertising asset to your company.
