Sending files for use in Creative Projects
- File transfer service (FTP) is provided to move larger files over the network for use as creative or production click here to go to the FTP Information Page. Please contact me for user name and password if you have not already received one.
- When Sending image files for creative, please send the original files not cropped or colour corrected.
- Please do not re size files or change the resolution for creative, the best file for use would be the camera's raw file as it has a number of advantages. The best file type for any Outdoor project would be the highest resolution original file available.
- The highest resolution image is one that has the greatest number of total pixels, a 4x6 inch photo at 300 dpi is the same resolution as a 16.66x24 inch photo at 72 dpi. Look at the total dots tall and wide this will give a better way of determining which file has the largest amount of data or highest resolution. The larger the total pixels, the higher the resolution.
- When sending files prepared by other professionals, photos etc. be sure not to change them in any, this can cause unexpected results.
- If the files are large or if you have many files to send it is good idea to use a compression program like 7-ZIP or WinZip to reduce file size for transport. If the file is a .TIF type be sure to save using the LZW format, which is a loss less compression. The goal is not to use a compression type that will cause image damage like a high compression JPG file.
- When sending JPG files please save these files using a setting that has 100% quality or one that produces the largest file size.
- If sending files via email please be sure to send the original file, do not let your computer change the resolution before sending. This will lower your image resolution and it will lose a great deal of image data.
- On emails please keep the total file size at or below 5 MB to ensure delivery.
- If sending multiple large files please send multiple emails. If your file is larger than 10 MB please use the FTP.
- When providing logos or other prepared art work please send these files as a vector type if possible, a vector files can be scaled without quality loss. This is the file type of choice when producing large signs, vector file will produce the sharpest text, lines and curves.
